Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered her sixth State of the State address last night from the Capitol. She highlighted many of the pro-worker policies enacted in 2023, which included restoring collective bargaining rights, reinstating Prevailing Wage, repealing the Pension Tax, and making it easier to build renewable energy projects. In response, Michigan Laborers District Council Business Manager Geno Alessandrini, Sr. said the following:
“LIUNA members have been on the winning side of the policies of this administration. From investing record amounts in road funding, to tackling cost of living issues, to promoting union trade apprenticeship programs, Governor Whitmer has stood with LIUNA members. Forward thinking policies announced last night, including a focus on “build, baby, build!” for housing construction, authorizing another special $700 million in road funding, and doubling down on building union manufacturing plants, will all strengthen our Union.”
