Lansing, MI, 02/13/2025 – Today, the Michigan Laborers District Council (MI LiUNA) released its first-ever Legislative Scorecard, a comprehensive evaluation of Michigan lawmakers based on their commitment to strengthening workers’ rights, supporting union construction labor, and investing in infrastructure.
The evaluation considers key factors, including floor votes, sponsorships, co-sponsorships, and other legislative actions that impact construction workers’ rights, wages, and safety.
“As Laborers, we build Michigan’s roads, bridges, schools, and energy infrastructure,” said Brent Pilarski, Business Manager of the Michigan Laborers District Council. “We need leaders in Lansing who fight for strong labor protections, good-paying jobs, and investments in our workforce. This scorecard makes it clear who is standing with us.”
Legislators were graded based on their positions on critical bills, such as the repeal of Right-to-Work, restoration of prevailing wage protections, investments in energy jobs, and protections for workplace safety.
“This is about accountability,” said Robert Joerg, Director of Government Affairs for MI LiUNA. “Michiganders deserve to know who is taking real action to protect construction jobs, expand worker protections, and invest in Michigan’s future.”
State Senator John Cherry received the highest pro-Laborer score this past term in the Senate, while State Representatives Jasper Martus and Penelope Tsernoglou led in the House.
The full MI LiUNA Legislative Scorecard, including detailed voting records, is available at https://www.mi-laborers.org/legislative-affairs.
Michigan LiUNA represents more than 15,000 active and retired construction workers who are the backbone of our state’s infrastructure and energy systems.
