The Michigan Laborers’ District Council is an affiliation of seven Laborers’ Local Unions representing 13,000 active and retired Construction Laborers in Michigan. We are an affiliation of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, AFL-CIO (LIUNA), which represents 800,000 members.
The Michigan Laborers’ District Council was originally chartered in 1948 and is located in Lansing, Michigan. The District Council, headed by an elected Executive Board, meets monthly and consists of elected Delegates from our seven Local Unions.
The District Council and its Staff provide technical assistance, legislative lobbying, organizing and contract negotiations support service to the Laborers’ Local Unions in Michigan. The District Council mediates problems as they develop between Local Unions, associations and our signatory contractors and facilitates the resolution of jurisdictional or other issues that may develop between Locals and other building trade unions.
The District Council Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer serve as either Chairman or Secretary of our Fringe Benefits Funds and together with Management Trustees oversee the Fringe Benefit Fund Trust Agreements (Health Care, Pension, Annuity, Vacation and LECET) of employers and our Members in the State of Michigan.
